  • [GRUEN001 | STADTGRUEN001] Lomov - Free Port | ambient
On one hand a 'Free Port' is the free trading zone of a harbour, where goods are being discharged, stocked, and again shipped. An area in which you sometimes can find a calmness within the daily unrest, but in which you may also feel a little bit lost. On the other hand you may read 'Free Port' as an open terminal of a computer, where you can plug-in other devices in order to widen your operative possibilities, or to get more information - actually, the real point of present unrest.
Both readings merge in one idea: the openness and freedom within the moment of decision, how to use our huge possibilities. Sometimes we linger here. Within this brief hesitation, which also takes the lead in every creative act, comes the vision of the apparent infinity of worldliness. At this zero-point we become aware of the overwhelming, unattainable abundance of world and its sublimity. We get a glimpse from the positive end of melancholy.
Life is motion and we have to step forward and by cutting the world digitally into diminutive pieces we even widen our possibilities more and more. It's a risk and a chance at once, but by keeping that zero-point in mind, we should be able to discover the beauty within all tiny things, within every marginal moment.
  • [GRUEN002 | STADTGRUEN003] Martin Donath - Dimanche | ambient
'Dimanche' (sunday) is the most important day of the week on which you should forget about your workday problems and worries and just lay back and enjoy your life. Working every day under the pressure of the society, sunday is reserved for everyone to recreate.
Especially in summer this isn't as easy as it sounds because the heat is doing everyone. After the really hot summer in 2003 'Dimanche' is anticipating to the upcoming hot days this year which will apparently last quite long like the year before.
So instead of suffering under the heat you should remember the lovely moments summer brings to you, like a calm bask on the veranda, slurping a cool cocktail, enjoying a fresh breeze and being surrounded by barely dressed sexy chicks.
    All that makes your summer.
  • [GRUEN003 | STADTGRUEN005] Georg Neufeld - Lake Side | ambient
Wake up its springtime, time for arousing moods, for transitions, for the great gender oxymoron. Getting rid of the cold winter chains, feeling the early warm sunbeams on the skin, walking along the lakeside shore you're being accompanied by one single thought: love to feel your body. Yearning for sweet closeness the ambience is still too brumal to harmonize the yin and yang. how do we get?
Georg Neufeld's 'Lakeside' EP is just dedicated to the outlook from his studio window across a spacious lake. Giving free place to his thoughts about all the past nodding acquaintances he filled the emotional desire into the chill mould of deepest Minimal House, spiced with abstract disco stabs and flattering industrial twangs. Swinging back and forth between wider patterns, more intimate, smoother parts and strictly beat driven sequences, the EP builds up more and more a state close to satisfaction. It's just a game of mutual attraction and after all, isn't it an unending story?
Making music may be the kings' way to bridge the interval between the seasons, between a gone love and the coming. Listening to Georg Neufeld's music will just ring your bells!
  • [GRUEN004 | STADTGRUEN007] Acidrain - Mostly Covered In Clouds | ambient
'Mostly Covered In Clouds' proclaims some very certain kind of mood, which can be found in very early hours in the morning when the sun's light is irradiating little fluffy clouds from below the horizon, and in later evening when the sky is covered in extensive clouds with the sun shining through, spending some strange light between yellow and orange.
Both moments are retinued by feelings of warmth and contiguity and help to gain new energy to manage one's problems and fears. Sometimes we forget about our own needs, only worrying about other people, our work or the floatin' society in which we are integrated.
This EP continues the idea of 'Dimanche' by Martin Donath and tries to repulse the clouds which are dampening the beautifulness of the blue sky and the shining sun, metaphorically speaking. Don't hesitate to enjoy these warm but distant pieces of minimal electronica, directly imported from Switzerland.
  • [GRUEN005 | STADTGRUEN009] Gras - Gras | ambient
The monotonous noise of bypassing cars drags me away from sleep and into another day. Time doesn't exist, there are just processes and my whole life seems to be tied to an infinite process like the neverending looping sound of the cars outside my small apartment. I open the door, however unable to open the walls of isolation that seperate me from mankind.
Sitting down beside the road, I feel the wet grass with my fingers. I peel off some leaves and gaze at them with my eyes. Drops seep down silently into nowhere where they melt with my feelings.
Like sitting in a diving belt I float through the strange but yet self-created environment of my own subconsciousness, greedily absorbing images and sentiments I had forgotten and repressed for such a long time. My own existence seems to dissolve and drift away like dust in the wind, far beyond the walls of fear and melancholia.
A delightful tickling surrounds my head and muffles my body - it's grass.
  • [SJSEP-3104] Audiotoolz - Molecules EP | breakbeat, electrobreaks, trancebreaks
When trance meets nuskool breakbeat. Molecules is fusions melodic trancey feeling with rolling breaks.
The EP comes with a bonus track Serious Shopping, which is a hard and techy electrobreak tune made for a short film about the consumer society.
  • [AUDCST049] Jon Niche – Invisible Stories | ambient, alternative, electronica
Following the release of ‘The Children of the Sea‘, Black On Black (now Jon Niche) wanted to quickly follow up this EP with a new range of material, allowing for him to ride the success of the train that TCOTS created.
However, it was a range of personal and musical which created a large amount of writers-block and an obsession for songs being on par or better with the previous releases, with most songs either being totally unfinished or scraped in the final stages of production for this reason.
At the dawn of the new decade, Black on Black decided to strip himself of his previous persona, taking on ‘Jon Niche’ as a new alias for his music, bringing with him a new attitude and a new direction for his music.
Influenced more by artists such as Brian Eno, Modwheelmood and his own peers, Jon Niche has created an album not to walk around listening to, or to listen with sub-par earphones through an iPod, but an album for lying or sitting down and listening to.
Most of this music was created utilising the late night walks and late night album listening sessions that has influenced Jon Niche in the past, and thus must be listened as such.
‘Invisible Stories’ has been a labour of love for Jon Niche, having been crafting and perfecting these songs for damn near over 10 months, these songs have been ripped apart and re-recorded more times than Jon cares to remember, and hopes that you enjoy and appreciate the efforts that have gone into this release.
  • [ZIMMER065] Kenni Sosa - Flying Dutchman | minimal techno
The legend of the Flying Dutchman concerns a ghost ship that can never make port, doomed to sail the oceans forever. It probably originates from 17th century nautical folklore. The oldest extant version dates to the late 18th century. Sightings in the 19th and 20th centuries report the ship to be glowing with ghostly light. It is said that if hailed by another ship, its crew will try to send messages to land or to people long dead. In ocean lore, the sight of this phantom ship is a portent of doom.
  • [KOOI0014] Swemiratz - Seobe | breaks
  • [GRUEN006 | STADTGRUEN012] Krill.minima - Borkenkaefer | techno
In times of forests dieback and global environmental disease it seams to be controversial to praise these three litte creatures.
The bark beetle appears when a forest is diseased and it will make the situation even worse. But thus it contributes to the regeneration of nature. New plants will grow on the ground when the work of this little bug is done. Bugs always drive us to reconsider a deadlocked situation and so we have to start anew. They have survived times long before humans crossed path, and they will always remind us that we are not able to hold a system stable.
And even if we think that we can pluck things from time, that we can make furniture from wood, the next little creature will remind us of finiteness: the wood worm. It will dig its own system into our stolen infinteness until it's finished. Silent, unseen, cryptically the wood worm performs its task. Do we recognize the inappreciable change of time?
Sometimes if we catch a little lady bird, this symbol of happiness and felicity, we may at the same time catch an insight into the truth of our existence. It's the slight smiling upon our face when the lady bird goes its way after a little rest. And we may consider the same smiling on our face if we look into the eyes of our children.
So, if you shake your christmas tree and a little creature will crawl away, get the smile!
  • [GRUEN007 | STADTGRUEN013] V/A - Janus | ambient
When winter draws a deep cold breath over fields and forests the human adjourns to his sitting room, retiring back to warm places and looking at the world outside. The glass window is the required artificial separation that lets us survive from the mortal power of coldness. Behind the window we can build up our private little universe with plants and flowers which need southern heat normally. Within this little world everything is put in the right cultivated order, everything is all right.
Building up a secure room we can lean back and contemplate the course of the world, the well-stabilized harmony between nature and culture, which we have built up. But the precondition for this little paradise is separation. In order to conserve the state of life, securing our spirit conceives new separating techniques again and again. With glass we may construct a winter garden to conserve summer state, with photos and videos we may remember past times and with recording techniques we even may hear formerly faded sounds. The conservative attitude always looks back in order to conserve a certain state of life, to stop the course of world.
But life with its seasonal eclipse always goes ahead. Janus, the ancient deity of transition and passage dominates the brumal season. He has two faces, one looking back and one looking forward. The first has a contemplative and conservative mindset and the second a planning and visionary one. At the conservatory we may learn something about right techniques and a former way of living. But we should realise it as our everlasting challenge for our future.
Contemplation is the condition for vision. So join our musical invitation and lean back in contemplation to draw breath for an exciting new year.
